The education and training programmes (focused on MBO levels 1-4 inclusive) can be broken down as follows:
01. Airport-specific skills:
These are aimed at all activities taking place at the airport, including security, logistics and the provision of (operational) services. Without these activities, airlines would not be able to operate their flights. The training programmes specifically focus on:
- Airside operations, both on the apron and in the terminal
- Cargo handling on the apron and in warehouses. This also includes specific certification for work involving hazardous substances.
- Baggage handling, on the apron and in baggage claim areas. This includes not only physical activities but also management and planning activities.
- Security
- Fire services
- Flight handling
02. Specific aviation occupations/skills:
- Cabin crew (on-board services)
- Technical skills, production, maintenance and repairs, both in hangars (base maintenance) and on the apron (line maintenance)
- IATA certification
03. General/technical skills:
- Computer skills
- Driving lessons (apron driver, water/fuel, baggage)
- Management skills
- Personal development, especially for service provision and security
- Language skills
- Other technical skills
- Occupational safety
Where possible, practice coaches (experienced, older staff members) are used in order to transfer expertise and retain it within the aviation industry.
Objectives
To develop the desired and necessary skills and qualifications of current and future aviation employees in order to maintain and strengthen a high-quality aviation job market. The plan is to train and make highly employable/re-employable 4,558 employees in the first project period (16 August 2013–15 August 2015) and an additional 5,632 employees in the second project period (16 February 2015–15 February 2017).
